The Purple Onion Café is continuing to Offer Meals with Highest Praise Church

Shallotte, NC – April 17, 2020 – The Purple Onion Café/ART Catering & Events and Highest Praise Church are continuing to offer individual hot boxed meals for those in need among the Covid-19 Crisis.

Since they began this grassroots effort on March 25th, they have already served over 1800 people in the community. Meals are distributed drive-thru style, in the Highest Praise parking lot on Wednesdays at 4pm and Sundays at 11am. Highest Praise Church is located at 19 Red Bug Road SW, Shallotte, along US-17 North.

“Meals are carefully prepared at the ART Catering & Events kitchen by our Chef. A typical meal includes rotisserie chicken, potatoes, country green beans, and freshly baked rolls. Once the baking is complete, meals are transported to Highest Praise Church to be distributed to those in need. Cars line up as early as 90 minutes before serving begins, showing the immense need in our county. Each person is incredibly grateful that pulls through the line to be handed their meals and blessed by Pastors Sherwood & Jordan Lancaster. Meals will continue to be distributed as long as we are able to cover most of our food cost. As a small business, we are continuing to be affected by this crisis, but it is in our hearts to support the community that has supported us since we opened on Main Street in 2004. Meals are currently covered through April 22nd.

The Purple Onion Café is Cooking up Meals for those in Need 

Shallotte, NC – March 24, 2020 – The Purple Onion Café/ART Catering & Events, with the support of private community donors and Highest Praise Church, is offering hot meals for those in need among the Covid-19 Crisis.

For the next three Wednesdays (March 25, April 1, April 8) starting at 4pm, Highest Praise Church and the Purple Onion Café Staff will safely distribute packaged hot meals for the first 300 individuals in need. Distribution will take place in the parking lot of Highest Praise Church located at 19 Red Bug Road SW, Shallotte, along US-17 North.

“We are proud to be a part of a small-town where we can all do our part to help one another. If we come together as a community, we can get through this together!” Terry Bland, Owner of the Purple Onion Café and ART Catering & Events.

Distribution will be handled drive-thru style to keep in accordance with the current restaurant safety guidelines. A maximum of four boxes per car will be handed out. Due to the demand of meals, we cannot “hold meals” until arrival. Meals are distributed on a first-come, first-served basis at 4:00pm in the Highest Praise Parking Lot. The public is encouraged to carefully pull through the designated area and abide by the flow of traffic for efficiency and safety reasons. The Shallotte Police Department will be on-site to direct traffic and ensure public safety for this outreach.

Brunswick Stew is BACK!

Chef Andrew called me over to the kitchen today to let me video some super yummy Brunswick Stew bubbling away! So then (of course) I had to get a little photoshoot of our Award-Winning Stew to share with you all! Come see us before the season is over! 

How to Place an Online Order...

We are so excited to announce that we are now offering ONLINE ORDERING for the Purple Onion Café!

• Visit our website at www.purpleonioncafe.com
• Click on the “Takeout Order” link at the top of the page (next to the cafe logo)
• You now have two options: Click “Order for Now” which prompts the current menu, OR Click “Order for Later” and have an order in cue for a later time or even later date.
• Choose your favorite menu items and follow along with the prompts on each menu item to choose sides and/or make modifications. Click “Add to Order”
• Once you are satisfied with your order, Click “Checkout”
• If you do not already have a ChowNow Account, you will be prompted to create one, Follow the instructions, pay for your order, and viola!
• Once we receive the order in the café, just a technology minute, we will confirm your order and you will receive an email with the estimated time the order will be ready (10 minutes, 15 minutes, 30 minutes, etc).
